Unfortunately it's far from an equal playing field. The ASX is a business and it's driven directly by fees. So long as it maximises the total fees it receives the ASX doesn't care. It certainly doesn't care about who makes or loses money, or how people attempt to do that, so long as it continues to attract enough participants to take home a tidy profit it doesn't care. Different groups have negotiated different fee structures based upon how they wish to participate in the market and the ASX is more than happy to accommodate any and all forms of participation relative to the amount of money it can make out of those participants. The unfortunately thing is that ASX tries to pretend this isn't the case, and people get caught up in believing it. Just recognise the reality of it all and try to make money within that reality.
