There is definitely an equally likely alternative:

Nic and Gavin were spruiking for their own gain and greediness (salaries and bonuses), and then tried to fill the revenue gap by taking on business they were essentially giving away at a cost to shareholders knowing they could never meet the demand in a sustainable /profitable way.

The only reason 24 was reached was Dr Bob's Alexicool came along to save the day. And Alexicool would have nothing to do with the forecast Nic put out to the market and kept pressing until the final hour.
