The EU may be proceeding but not all in the UK are happy about it:"A Green Tax That Risks Britain's Economic Sustainability
Tuesday, 03 May 2011 08:40 Philip Salter, City A.M.
FROM 2013, a tax on carbon producers will be unilaterally implemented by the UK upon carbon intensive industries. Costs to UK based businesses are estimated to be in the region of 9.3 billion pounds, undermining their competitiveness, damaging energy producers and users, and ultimately hitting the wallet of consumers."
and in the last paragraph (bold is mine):"The billions raised in the tax look to be heading straight for the bottomless pit of general government expenditure. It might fulfil the functions of raising revenue and politicking on the key issue of carbon reduction, but this will come at the expense of weakening UK manufacturing, limiting foreign direct investment and increasing energy prices."

And this is supposed to be a fix for a scientific issue? I think we are being taken as fools.
