Their JV is deeper than that, Mitsubishi UFJ have seats on the MS board and own a large chunk of their stock.
The prime broking relationship is worldwide and MS call the shots in the market on behalf of the alliance.
From my research it IS them amongst others. Check the share flows disclosed to the market and compare them to the SP movements and you may form a different view.
