staz I'll cut you a bit of slack because I'm in my early forties and can still remember what it was like to be young.
I used to vote Labor, was involved in a bit of student politics at university, and even joined Greenpeace.
Hawke and Keating were Giants at the time in Australian politics imo. And for the Labor party. They got my vote once I was old enough to cast one.
But then Howard came along, and I think Australia overall was a much happier, and prosperous place - for ALL Australians.
He and his government won me over. Not that I ever received anything from all this so-called middle class welfare but I certainly enjoyed the tax cuts.
No-one can spend your own money better than the person who earnt it. Certainly not the government.
Contrast that Howard period to the 6 years we've had under Labor. Rudd then Gillard now Rudd again have engaged in class warfare, gender division, they have pitted union against employer and employee again, brought in numerous new taxes, racked up monstrous levels of debt, and pretty much failed to achieve anything they promised to do.
So as a young person Staz I would simply say this to you - trust your own instincts. Your vote is precious and only for you to cast. Use it wisely. Chase your ideals, and your beliefs. They will most likely change over time as you get older but that's OK. Times change. Circumstances change.
