why would you want to be a police officer???

The events of recent weeks must be very disheartening for members of our police service, they appear to be damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Firstly, a Brazilan student dies after being tasered by police whilst resisting arrest in Sydney CBD. Tasers were issued to Police as they are meant to be a non lethal weapon. Police then questioned why did you have to taser the guy, he was only running away.

Then in Westfield Parramatta, Police shot a man who had car jacked a car, held people at knife point, threatened a police officer and then resisted arrest. The poor Police Officer who will have to deal the this mans death for the rest of his life is then questioned.......could you not have used as taser???

Then in Brisbane, a year old girl steals her foster carers car, its reported to Police, they respond, spot the car but decide not to chase due to the age of the girl. The poor girl then crashes the car, resulting in her death and now the police are being questioned again about their actions.... I JUST DONT GET IT.

The Police are meant to protect and serve the community. What exactly do people expect the Police to do, not pursue criminals who try and run when confronted, not stop people who are running around holding a knife to innocent peoples throats who are just going about their daily business?? Do we want a 13 year old girl driving around in a car without police involvement? It is extremely tragic that the young girl died but imagine if she had collied with a young family or an eldery couple instead of colliding with a tree...... what would people have thought about the Police's actions / response then?

IMO, if you have done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear. Unless you have been confronted by a man waving a knife in your face and threatening to harm you, how can you judge what reaction and action is most suited?

The Police need the support of the general public and these civil liberty campagainers need to get a reality check and Judges need to toughen up on their sentences.

Its about time some people showed some appreciation for the work that members of the Police Service do rather than questioning their every move.

From one member of the community, thank you and I for one will keep on trusting the judgement calls that Police Officers make in the heat of the moment.
