Look at this way . If every first home buyer from now on were to fund their housing with their super , I think it would put a floor under the market and distort it upward . Look at how first home buyer grants push prices up of the lower priced houses . Any re agent will tell you about that .
Now that smsf's funds are allowed to invest in property , prices are going to rise because you are creating competition in the market . More competition means prices rise .

Also , if someone were to use their super that they'd been building for , let's say , 10 years , then that puts their super back to square one . If they squander that house during their lifetime because there's no controls over it , then they're back to square one and their super is significantly discounted .
