So they are just going to let the gas (if there is any) escape into the atmosphere ? or is there no gas ? I didn't think you had a choice ... if gas travelled to surface ... you flared it ... no ?
No the gas is kept in the formation by heavy drilling mud although small amounts of gas are circulated to the surface in the drilling mud and is detected by various instruments. If a zone of interest is hit, wire logging takes a closer look and can even take samples.
