The thing with the trains is:
- Due to Australia's size it is a massive engineering task to get all that super fast track from Brisbane to Melbourne. I believe super fast rail needs a dedicated rail line, but I might be wrong.
- Due to the time and cost of getting super fast rail up and running it will take DECADES for it to be cost competitive with flying. Pre COVID you could fly Sydney to Melbourne for $120. No one is getting a train from Sydney to Melbourne if it takes 3 times as long and 3 times the price of a flight. Until the time and cost equal flying super fast trains are not a genuine competitor.
