Widespread Gold Mineralisation Discovered at North Monger
Cortona Resources (ASX: CRC, CRCO) is pleased to announce that highgrade gold mineralisation has been discovered over a large area at the Wombola Dam prospect. Assay results received from the recent drilling
include:
4m @ 26.3g/t Au from 24m
1m @ 26.2g/t Au from 39m
2m @ 21.2g/t Au from 28m
2m @ 10.4g/t Au from 24m
3m @ 9.03g/t Au from 22m
Additional highlights from this drilling include:
Gold mineralisation has been intersected over an area of 250m x 200m and is still open.
Mineralisation is shallow, generally ranging from surface to ~50 metres.
Continuity of mineralisation appears robust enough to enable an initial resource estimate to be made.
The prospect remains open to the east and south. Further drilling to follow shortly.
Gold assays have now been received for 45 Reverse Circulation (RC) drill holes at the Wombola Dam Prospect (Figures 1 & 2). The results build on those announced in July of this year, (which included 2m @ 16.9g/t, 3m @
16.4g/t, and 6m @ 3.4g/t). Gold mineralisation has now been intersected over an area of ~250m x 200m at depths ranging from surface to ~50 vertical metres. Better results from the current program are detailed in Table 1.
Gold is hosted by numerous steeply dipping
quartz-carbonate veins within the granophyric portion of a differentiated dolerite. The veining is associated with
pervasive carbonate-pyrite alteration, with biotite alteration developed closer to the veins.
Cortona believes that there is enough continuity in this mineralisation to commission an initial resource estimate, and is increasingly confident that the prospect can add to the Company’s current resource inventory of 304,000t @ 2.7g/t for 26,800oz of gold already defined at the nearby Wombola Pit.
Table 1: RC DRILL RESULTS, NOVEMBER 2006 – WOMBOLA DAM PROSPECT
The drilling at Wombola Dam constitutes a significant part of the October-November RC drilling program at North Monger. The Company is awaiting results from the Wombola Pit, Hammer & Tap and Hoffmann prospects, which will be announced in due course.

Cortona will immediately commission an independent assessment of the Wombola Dam drilling results and the prospect’s resource potential. The Company will conduct an internal review of the newly acquired data, and further drilling will be planned for the earliest achievable time.
Managing Director Peter van der Borgh said “These are great results which bring us closer to achieving our goal of generating revenue. Since listing on the ASX in March we have completed over 11,000m of RC drilling, a RAB drilling program, and several mapping and rock chipping programs. We are a small team, and this success reflects the Board’s genuine intent and commitment to explore this exciting project, and a great deal of hard work by our Project Manager in Kalgoorlie”.
Yours Faithfully
Peter van der Borgh
