Don Hancock had an interest in a pub in Kalgoorlie and also had an interest in a gold mine around the time the Mickelbergs were arrested! I don't think I'm the only one who knows this, however, I was on the scene when the hotel broker sold his pub! His connection to gold and Kalgoorlie always intrigued me, especialy after the Mickelberg connection. The "silver fox" as he was known was very secretive and guarded about his involvement in both enterprises even before the theft.
D.H. had a dubious reputation and although he probably embellished ( doctor'd )the evidence against the Mick's, most locals believe that they were guilty of the theft. For what it's worth.
