Years ago we lived on a farm. We had a dog that loved our 3 children. On occasions our dog would entertain itself by catching rabbits. We tried to discourage him, but the temptation for him was too great. He would sniff around the rabbit burrows to find which ones were currently being used by the rabbits. He would then sit several metres from a burrow, not moving, while waiting for the rabbit to come out. One night when we were having dinner, the dog came into the kitchen with a freshly killed rabbit -as proud as if he had won an olympic gold medal. He sat under the table and proceeded to eat the rabbit before being told to take it outside. He then sat on the patio and finished his dinner.
This dog was very intelligent, understood the meaning of many words, and had a cheeky personal style in conflict negotiations. Our daughter was about 5 years old, and she had an unpleasant habit of teasing the dog. One day the patience of the dog was exhausted. He walked into her bedroom, went to her toybox, pulled her favourite doll out of the box then pissed on it. She was extremely upset but she never teased him again.
