we look forward to yr return Dank
as it's a specky stock and this is a discussion board
here goes some unreserved speculation.
next year we should have both calimmune and CoH under way with their respective HIV trials. in the CoH case, Rossi has said he'd like to be able to reinfuse 100% modified stem cells, not just a tiny percentage as used in the safety trial.
as we saw in the safety trial, it was noted 'interestingly' in CoH words, that when the virus numbers went up so did the offspring of the modified stem cells. but as it was a safety trial the numbers were too tiny to really set anything in motion.
so, particularly given what we saw in the amazing leukemia gene therapy trial results from last week, it's not inconceivable that the CoH trial may exceed 'critical mass' for the modified stem cells to out-multiply the unmodified cells remaining in the body in survival of the fittest scenario.
if that were to happen, we might be looking at the first recreation of the Berlin patients cure, but without having to find the naturally HIV resistant donor.
wild speculation - but the nature of the therapy makes the scenario quite possible in an early stage of the trial process. perhaps why they are using the same patients they used in the safety trial too.
anyway - lets park that. still a way off before we get any trial results - i'm guessing end of next year all going well.
