On April 9, Centrex published a whole lot of information on it's website about the Wigerup Mine and how the ore will be shipped out of Proper Bay. Lots of detail (including FAQs) and an interesting read. Some extracts of the reports are below.
"The Wilgerup hematite ore is proposed to be shipped directly to market. The ore will be mined via open pit mining methods then crushed and screened into lump and fine products at the mine site. Each year,1.6 million tonnes of crushed and screened product is proposed to be transported by covered road transport to Proper Bay.
The initial project has a projected life of over six years, however the mine life can potentially be increased with further exploration success. The Company has identified some 30 targets in the immediate mine area that indicate the possible presence of buried hematite. These anomalies will be progressively drill tested and could lead to further mine developments."
Q: Could further ore finds be taken out of Proper Bay port?
A: Yes, it is planned to be a multi-user facility. The emerging mining industry in the southern Eyre Peninsula is in dire need of a port facility. We hope to increase our own reserves in the next few years.
This should keep the Chinese interested. And it may even attract the Indians who have been visiting Eyre Penninsula recently.
