Reasons why !!!
1.As an intelligence analyst he caused a big storm when in 2003 he resigned and spoke out against the Howard government on the Iraq war saying that Saddam Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction.
Naturally the government attacked him for his actions and; over time, many believed that as a consequence, he would not support or deal with the Coalition in future.
2. In 2004 Wilkie ran and lost against John Howard in the seat of Bennelong as a Green. ( A big change for someone who was once a young liberal).
3. He then ran and lost for the Greens on their Tasmanian Senate ticket in 2007. He resigned from the Greens in 2008.
With that track record, it would perhaps be fair to think that Mr Wilkie has burnt too many bridges.
If he doesn't now support Labor and an election is called, he will be out on his ear but by supporting them and continuing to play his little power games he can at least extend the inevitable for another 17 months. Unfortunately for him and the other so-called Independents, the Australian people can see what's going on and are beginning to demand some genuine honesty and principle from them in their decisions for the benefit of this wonderful country, not decisions designed to keep them in the trappings of power at the long-term expense of those who voted them into their seats.
