As a child we used electricity for lighting and cooking and water heating, batteries for torches, the vacuum cleaner, washing machine not much else. If all households cut their demand for power by using fewer appliances, household luxuries, having one TV instead of three, fewer radios, mobiles, computers, gaming devices, dishwashers, air conditioning, security systems, etc we could have a lower demand for power supplies and see our way through until the transition to renewables is complete. I am as guilty as most and in my ever increasing demand for the energy supply, complaining about rising electricity bills and yet know that a few simple changes could save me lots of expense, help the climate and not change much in my lifestyle. Maybe we would not need to find ways to fill the energy gap with coal, nuclear, gas and other supply sources until the renewables are fully servicing our needs.
