Can't explain all his crazy behaviour, but Abbott's now nearly 60, had some serious head trauma when he was a young bloke from boxing and is a known hard drinker. It would explain his erratic ways, aggressive behaviour and stilted speech patterns and it will only get worse from here.

Hopefully Tony gets the help he needs, but it's becoming clear he shouldn't be doing this kind of work any longer.
