Hi alemond,
Three issues:
1. The extensive underground aquifer that we were about to penetrate with further mining.
I learnt a considerable amount about this topic from the professionals at the mine who were worried that we were not taking appropriate action. I made a video discussing the issue of the aquifer (July / Aug 2018 when I was on site) and sent it to all the executive. The basis of this information was an IP survey and report conducted by our internal geophysicist I guess 12 months ago. I was (abruptly) told that it was all in hand.
It clearly was not.
Multiple internal professionals recommended an external specialist hydrologist to design a de-watering system. In addition there was a simple solution to prevent the aquifer from being charged in the first place.
2. There are internal high capacity pumps installed. But they are in danger of being overwhelmed because of the aquifer.
3. The extension of the skip and inclined shaft is a separate (but also related) issue and has separate concerns and costs.
These issues would have been more appropriately addressed 12 months ago, before the death spiral -we might be mining effectively by now.
These issues should be part of any company update.
