Apple has been looking into “sapphire crystal glass” to replace their current use of Gorilla Glass for their phones for quite a few years. It’s stronger and more scratch resistant.

In fact their higher end Apple Watches are already using it.

Should Saint Gobain be earmarked as a key supplier to Apple, and should Saint Gobain lean on RonaFlair as a key material (lots of shoulds) - this might unfold quicker than expected. The 2020/21 high end iPhone could very well move that way regardless they execute on the patent or not.
