The local councils and the state gov are supplying water trucks and water and have been for a month or two. No amount of water trucks are going to be a real solution at all. Regions need dams, they have bores but some of those are turning salty thats how close it has come to being a disaster. Make no light of this it is a crises and people in the cities may well feel the result of this. Some of those areas in crises right now are fruit and vegetable growing areas, big areas.
It is a dangerous slow creeping crises happening right now. You may well end up eating frozen food from places like China, India, EU and with the AUD now hovering around 67 - 68 c/usd and looking to go lower these things will become ever more expensive. With wages being constantly suppressed this crises may well bight you all on the arse very soon.
