1134 [Dow Jones] In weaker overall market, Lynas (LYC.AU) adds 6.5 cents or 4.7% at A$1.45. LYC says it's in "advanced" talks with Japan on fast-tracking expansion of rare earths project to secure additional supply to Japanese market. LYC on track for first new production outside of China in 3Q11. LYC likely also supported by NHK report from Japan that Sojitz (2768.TO) has agreed to obtain right to buy about 8,500 tons of rare earth metals, representing nearly 30% of annual demand in Japan, from LYC. All of this said, with a market capitalization of A$2.40 billion, LYC upside limited for now by lack of production, risk inherent in projects at this stage of development.
