"sentiment v fundamentals"
Verus fundamentals? I don't see it that way. The two go together. Absolutely. When you have good fundamentals and a positive sentiment, you have the stuff of very powerful rally.
Many stocks have great fudamentals but languish sometimes for years, tying up their shareholder's money which could be invested elsewhere. Others go well, and difference is the sentiment towards the stock.
"what indicators do you use to judge sentiment?"
Most are pretty subtle, but it boils down to watching how the market reacts to news. Not the news itself, good or bad, but the reaction to it. Eg. when sentiment is weak, bad news is bad news and so is good news. Eg, most would have seen the World Bank's armageddon report yesterday. But the market has ignored it? There is a powerful message in that. Ie. bad news is being ignored. A very major change.
Sentiment can change in a flash, and that's when people get out of synch, selling then they should be buying, and the opposite. What happens then is they end up getting confused.
