It is not only gen y's that are doing this

I know a number of people who have their money invested and rent high quality properties for much less than the return on their investments

They all say the same thing "I could not afford to have all my money tied up in such an expensive property"

There are business people that I know who rent and because they rent they do not have to borrow money to operate their businesses.

As long as you are not COMPELLED to rent for financial reasons it can be a much better way to go
