will gold shares hold up when market drops?

I am expecting the market to continue the down trend later this year and into next year, reaching new lows.

Last year we saw gold stocks drop hard when the rest of the market fell. I imagine there was a lot of panic selling and traders just needing to liquidate.

What are thoughts on what gold stocks will do if the market continues to trend down in the near future? Are they ready to detach from the rest of the market or will we see them head down again?
