Go nuclear. That is the way to stay green and stay profitable. If the Government provides funding and incentives then so much the better.
Technology has moved on so much over the decades and we now have both small modular designs and fail-safe designs.

Australia has massive sources of uranium ore as well as world leading technologies for processing and enriching it into fuel for nuclear reactors (SLX). We even have a company (ASM) that can produce elements such as zirconium and hafnium that are used in nuclear plants.
Why waste the knowledge and resources that are in front of us?

Waste disposal you say? With our bountiful supply of mining and engineering knowledge and endless spaces of remote terrain in which to find safe disposal sites, that should not be too difficult.

Nuclear power generation has a very low carbon footprint. We are even developing new products (reference ADN) for concrete production that reduces carbon exfoliation and we know that a uranium reactor will use a lot of concrete for its construction but then so does a windmill.

All we need is some political will to stop pouring subsidies into solar and wind and start applying some sense into incorporating one of the best base load technologies available, which is sitting in our backyard.
Uranium is the best substitute for coal and gas for base load generation apart from hydro and geothermal (which we have limited sources of).

After paying for Lucas Heights for decades, lets start applying the knowledge towards a cost efficient and green method of generating bulk electricity.
