If they do buy it (and I hope they miss out) there will be a substantial capital raise to fund it right when the share price is at its cheapest in many years. They'd be crazy buying it when they have their own undeveloped ounces where they would get much larger bang for buck than in acquisition. The balance sheet is in good shape and they cut the dividend so that they can fund McPhillamy's without raising equity. Debt funding with the capital on the balance sheet is the way to go. Buying Tropicana would be a huge mistake and just an easy way out for the board to increase production without increasing value. If anything it will destroy value & that's why the share price is slumping, and quickly. There are zero synergies in the transaction.

Tropicana would not be on RRL’s radar. You spelt out the reasons quite clearly and any media talk is just hot air. I revisited the RRL 2020 Diggers and Dealers presentation video last night and the CEO was crystal clear in his assertion that they would be cautious in assessing the value of any assets they acquired and they would not pay overs.
