The only advantage to consolidation that I can see is that, with less shares issued, it allows the company to raise capital moving into the future. Probably a good outcome if the company requires extra funds along the way.
Potential investors may also feel more comfortable with a company have less shares on issue.
As for value to the investor, there is absolutely no change at all. 10 X SP with one 10th of the shares for example.
