As posted in the response by @Oldtimer72, there are two opportunities:

1. Treatment of ARDS associated with COVID-19 infection
2. Treatment of ARDS associated with a wide range of other causes (see below). This is a much larger opportunity that will exist beyond COVID-19.

I envisage that as they ramp down treatment of COVID-19 ARDS they will be able to ramp up treatment of Non-COVID ARDS.

Possible Precipitating Causes

• Shock
• Severe blood loss
• Bone fractures – if they cause shock.

I tallied the data. There are around 2.3M cases of ARDS per annum in the world. Around 70% of these are moderate and severe to the point that they require invasive mechanical ventilation.

Just in the US and European Top 5 countries, around 230,000 cases of moderate and severe ARDS each year. I only included these regions since this is probably where approvals and partnership deals might occur first.
