Look on wikipaedia zinc bromine flow (gel likely to be similar and not yet trialled) has massively lower energy density than Tesla's NCA (ie cobalt) or Lithium Nickel Cobalt chemistries and NCA type (ie Tesla) "Snapshot of NCA.
High energy and power densities, as well as good life span, make NCA a candidate for EV powertrains. High cost and marginal safety are negatives." (http://batteryuniversity.com/index.php/learn/article/types_of_lithium_ion).
One or two spontaneous battery fires in a Tesla and this highly leveraged company may well collapse. Note that China and Europe use cobalt - because it reduces thermal runway risk .
Serious brand-name high production carmakers invest billions and dont easily take chances with new battery models.
IMO Cobalt is good for some time yet.
