For most of us life is one continual lesson and we try to apply those lessons. I believe that for some the damaged self is so deeply buried and so painful that it cannot be examined and unpicked. It also means that one must project, and avoid life to avoid failure or any sense of failure. Being a self congratulatory know all on hotcopper is a lot safer that experiencing real life and all the failures that brings for most of us.
