"Independent contact" comes in many forms. I don't doubt they could make a phone call, write a letter, speak to a journalist. But, there again, the Yorkshire Ripper was allowed to write letters. Nonetheless, regardless of ambiguity, how about you address the point that if Israel was encircled from today for the next 80 years, and subject to the same restrictions as Palestinians, you'd consider it more acceptable than a circumstance in which they were "herded in there" in the first place?
