I know nothing of the above company or its position and stage of development at time of sale in 2021, but if memory serves correct Lithium prices peaked from some time in 2022-23, fetching over 8000$/tonne for sc6, so if the company was sold in 2021 it preceded the boom. The writing on the wall at that time should probably have been that undersupply was coming/continuing so it may be in shareholders best interest to develop the mine... but no one had predicted prices would spike high as they did in the following couple years either. It takes quite some time to get a Lithium mine built and up and running to nameplate production, and costs are almost guaranteed to blow out, and things need ironing out along the way. How successful it would have been considering prices have dropped to the 800$ range today, and how they could weather current conditions are questions to ponder I guess, but everything is easy in hindsight. With the way prices spiked they potentially could have acquired extra funds just from selling DSO at the time.
I feel where you are coming from Dee.
Thanks for the cautions. After many years invested in Galaxy resources which eventually became Arcadium Lithium, lead by ex Goldman Sachs partner Paul Graves who recieved (incentive?) a hefty 12 million dollar payout after selling us out to Rio Tinto at the lows of the cycle, saying to shareholders the deal represented full and fair long term value? ...Perhaps for himself. Is it any wonder then he happened to land himself a job at the head of Rio's new lithium division. I think the outcomes speak for themselves sometimes and it's important to heed the risk in whose interests many of the people in these positions may truly represent.
maybe there is a contrast here with Canyon and what has happened in past situations and companies, but it is still good to know history of past actions of the characters involved in our investments and attempt to understand how and why those things happened.
Best wishes fellow friends.
