well the why is explained by aussienorm and that is to get
there mates to buy as cheaply as possible without the share price to run away from them and counting on retail investors or any investors for that matter to sell to them
ideally on the way down until they have enough and then make a takeover offer whatever that maybe....but it does make sense....imo
