will new delivery system increase patent life

Does anyone know whether a new delivery system will increase patent life? I don't know exactly how generics gain access to drugs, but I know they hate running clinical trials.

If GSK develop a new delivery system that is patented wouldn't this dramatically increase the effective patent life for Relenza. Sure the patent for Relenza itself may run out, but if Generics are forced to run clinical trials for their own delivery system would this represent a decent barrier to entry?

I'm keeping a very close eye on the GSK website for formal confirmation of Relenza capacity. Our local analysts can probably shed some light with how a new patented delivery system would protect Relenza sales after patent expiry.
