na - if per chance the Liberals got back in - in a rough kind of shape that we can recognise them as they've been and are ------
they'll operate exactly the same as before - they are quite incapable of change.
They'll do nothing mostly. They'll flounder about, they'll pander to business - but, no business will be interested in doing any power stuff except solar, wind, gas -
they maybe float some kind of looney nuclear idea - but, they'll have zip chance of getting it through with the greens still breathing - and as long as Labor oppose it.
That's a general picture - but, the whole picture might change with new technologies along with new science.
I can't see large nuclear stations being any kind of reality - but, if we have some stunning realisations on climate catastrophe in the next couple of years and if the magic of off the shelf, cheap smr's comes - particularly if those things coincide -
then, it might be a different story.
As I've said many times now - last year was different. We had a new measurement system come out for some climate monitoring and it was a very scary year of climate records shattering - which has continued into 24 with a LOT of energy - and all of it really bad news for the AMOC -
we know what happens when the AMOC stalls - that's uncontested. What we don't know is when it will happen or how the leadup to it happening will happen - but, happen it will. (and how it happens could be very very bad news for Oz)
We also know that if 24 and 25 are anywhere near as bad as 23 - then, every scientific dog will be barking madly in alarm -------- and it will all be saying 'they're here, they're here' --------- it's not going to be next century ---------- it might get here in our lifetimes
(if 24/5 somehow are worse than 23 - omg)
now - that will change not only the whole scientific and climate debate totally - it'll go on it's head
it will also change politics -------- politics who happily put of as 'someone else's problem' because it's way off in the distance out of our lifetime's focus -
and it's hurtling down the pike toward us at a hell of a speed - governments and political parties will be buffeted with strong winds from public, business, science, every department coming in with paper after paper all screaming about what is coming and what needs to be done
the volume will be deafening ---------- so, in that kind of atmosphere -
politics will be, shall we say 'dynamic' with turbo
