Answered simply with a parable I heard from Stephen Fry.

A man was seated next to a woman he didn't know at a dinner. During their conversation, he asked:

Man: I was wondering. Would you sleep with me if I were to pay you a thousand Pounds?
Woman: [acting coy and shocked] Well, I am a bit taken aback, but I suppose I would.

......Pause...

Man: Would you sleep with me if I paid you ten Pounds?
Woman: [Indignantly] How dare you!!!!!!! What kind of woman do you think I am?
Man: We've already established that. All we have to do now is settle on a price.
