Some Australians will travel domestically instead of internationally, but overall, locally we fall down with poor service (especially compared to Asia) and huge prices for what the local tourism experience is.

Add to this 10 per cent plus of the population unemployed, and a further few per cent at least having insufficient hours compared to what they need or want, and it's a recipe for lower volumes of domestic air travellers compared with a year ago, so even if QAN market share increases to what the company says should be 70 per cent of air users, it may still well be fewer passengers than the airline carried a year ago.

We can't doubt that some business travel will resume but there will be a portion of previous travellers who (at least some of the time) elect to use WebEx/Zoom instead of sitting in an aircraft for an hour and a half or more each way for a couple of one hour meetings. Business travellers have always been where QAN makes its money as these 'road warriors' pay higher fares and often book close to the day of travel.
