For older age groups (particularly the elderly), of course COVID is more dangerous than influenza, no one disputes this.
However, for more than 90% of the population, COVID is not serious, will not require hospitalisation and many people will not even show symptoms.
Fear mongering and telling everyone to panic and hide in a corner is not helpful. We are far better off being specific and telling the population that if you're fit and health and under the age of 50, there are illnesses other than COVID which you should be far more worried about.
