On Wednesday 28 July, the QAN 'red tail' continues to be a rare sight from Tullamarine, Melbourne to SYD as there are just two flights to operate: one at 1300 hours (lunch time) and the other at 1930 in the early evening.

QAN only has 14 other 'red tails' from Melbourne, with some being small (70 seats maximum) turboprops. This compares to more than 100 flights on a typical Wednesday out of Melbourne, so it's a significant reduction.

Jetstar lacks any flights from Melbourne to SYD tomorrow. Apart from that it has only five flights that will operate ex Melbourne: one each to Brisbane, Cairns, the Gold Coast, Townsville and Perth. So nothing to Adelaide or Tasmania. From Avalon Airport (55km from Melbourne's CBD), it has a solitary flight to the Gold Coast, and of course nil to SYD.

A restaurateur said in media today that bookings take two to three weeks to return once a lockdown ends. It may be somewhat quicker for the airlines but these shuts are hugely damaging to traveller confidence.
