Seriously, thank you for demonstrating how some Qantas shareholders have absolutely no idea when it comes to investing in shares.
You can't compare share price now vs then. QAN issued $71.7m worth of shares last year at $3.18 (around 22.5 million additional shares) that diluted existing shareholders. Total shares * share price = market capital. Compare that.
But even that doesn't tell the full story.
Market capital + debt = enterprise value. Think, "if I were to buy out this entire company by paying off the shareholders and the banks, what would it cost?". This is enterprise value. With more than $1.5bn of extra debt post-covid, the current EV is higher than pre-covid.
What you're doing when saying $7.46 > $5.20 is comparing apples with half eaten oranges and it shows how little you know about investing. I imagine that there are many of you doing the same thing, hence paying these ridiculous prices for a practically insolvent company.
