We travelled to LA in March to ensure continuity of our green cards, but it was a stupendous amount of organisation and suffering required to make it happen. $15k all up, simply to fly return to LA and sit on the ground for 4 nights and then fly home.

That simple trip required weeks of approvals at work, correspondence back and forward with the Australian govt for approval to leave (and return), covid tests either side which ended up costing $1k, 2 extra weeks of quarantine in a hotel which also cost $4k etc etc.

I know some of these restrictions have lifted but the same underlying fear remains for anyone who wants to travel - you do so at your own risk - knowing full well that at any moment, any government can ban you from coming or leaving (including your own Australian government of which we each have a passport which indicates the Australian govt requests that no one should impede our journey).

Ironic isn’t it that our own Australian govt has started to treat its own citizens like foreign adversaries.
