The travel industry in Oz and NZ has savagely reacted to the 'Clayton's reopening' ('the reopening you have when you don't have a reopening', in line with a drink of c.40 years ago) so this confirms it's really bad news for QAN (and AIZ):

"...Australian Federation of Travel Agents CEO Dean Long said it was not really a reopening at all, which was disappointing for all concerned.

“It’s the appearance (of reopening) rather than it being anything in real terms,” said Mr Long. “Australia is New Zealand’s largest market and vice versa and it’s following a strategy no other country in the world is following and it will just devastate the New Zealand travel industry specifically and make it hard to compete on a global stage.”

He said travel agents would not expect any bookings to be made for New Zealand holidays until the self-isolation requirement was eased and that would see people look elsewhere for their ski trips and drive holidays.

“Not only is it close to five-months away, because of the approach the New Zealand government has taken to date there won’t be any confidence they’ll even follow through on that,” Mr Long said.

“It’s a really disappointing road map. It just further isolates New Zealand in an environment where we don’t need to be isolated.”

New Zealand Airports Association chief executive Kevin Ward told Bloomberg, the continuing requirement would prevent any meaningful recovery in demand for travel to the country.

“New Zealand will remain essentially off the map for international travellers and many airlines,” Mr Ward said.

“People do not want to fly to New Zealand if they have to spend their first week sitting in a hotel..."
