A sign that Qantas only knows one way to react to any perceived competition is the launch of services between Sydney and Broken Hill.
How can any airline that is losing a fortune every week do this? Especially amidst a pandemic where travel is paralysed to a large extent.
Do they really expect that a route they gave up on 20 years ago is now profitable? During a downturn?
If so, they have been hopelessly derelict in their duty to shareholders in not having reinstated the service 3 or 5 years ago.
Of course, we all know it is just the usual retaliation against anyone who dares to move on Qantas's mainstream routes. Regardless of how much Qantas loses on this move, they will see it as worthwhile if it causes pain to the competitor.
It usually works out for Qantas when their pockets have been much deeper than their opposition. This time it is just reckless when they are probably worse off financially than their competitor is.
