QF9 (1645 AEDT Melbourne Airport to Darwin/London) looks like it's only carrying 82 economy passengers on the first leg today, less than half the seating capacity of 166 in that class.
QF1 at 1845 AEDT tonight (SYD- Darwin - London Heathrow) is better with 102, but that still leaves 38.6 per cent of seats in 'cattle class' vacant.
Air Canada frequently cancels its SYD - Vancouver BC flights, as it is today. So one might expect QF75 mid evening to be full given some passengers may seek a refund from AC and look for an alternative if they have time-pressing commitments, but in economy it has 38 vacant seats. Bear in mind before their retirement, this route was once flown by Boeing 747-400s that had about double the seating capacity of the 2022 situation using Boeing 787-900s.
QF1537 mid afternoon from SYD to Hobart, Tassie has 32 of 98 economy seats appearing to lack a posterior, even though there's only two nonstop QAN flights on this route today.
Another mid arvo offering on this Saturday 5 March, QF592 should leave SYD at 2.25pm for the Gold Coast's airport. It has 94 of 162 economy seats taken: a loading percentage of 58pc, generally lossmaking (although it depends on the yield per seat, freight carried and how many seats in the small business class cabin of 12 seats were sold). Often QAN staff travel in the latter). QAN says it calculates 'cash positive' by referring to return flights, not singles (one way).
