Agree that the Federal (and State) Governments will stop at nothing to prop up airlines.

We saw this with the Queensland Government's 'investment' of IIRC a two per cent stake in the reborn Virgin Australia. A great way to lose money. Would politicians and bureacrats invest their own money in this way?

REX has received far too much from the Federal Government.

It's been notable how the so-called 'Australian airline', QAN, has been unwilling to operate passenger flights overseas in recent months unless freight-only. In contrast, a number of foreign airlines - Singapore Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Sri Lankan Airlines, United Airlines, Qatar, Emirates, Air New Zealand, Scoot and at times Japan and Philippine Airlines - are among those that have operated passenger flights to and from Australia despite significant inbound passenger number restrictions.

QAN by and large only seems willing to do this when it's specifically remunerated by the Commonwealth Government.

Why give huge whacks of Australian taxpayer dollars to QAN when there's far better uses for scarce funds, with our national and state governments mired in huge debt?
