In May 2019, QAN 'own livery' - i.e. the QF flight prefix, not including Jetstar - carried a total of 583,849 passengers on one way international journeys to or from Australia. (Divide by two to obtain an estimate of inbound and outbound flows).

In BITRE figures just out for May 2022, QAN 'own livery' flights carried just 217,511 on if I've correctly counted to/from about 12 major destinations.

Embarrassingly for QAN, although Singapore Airlines only has flights to/from that eponymous citystate, it carried 219.484 in May 2022.

I'm not suggesting this lead will continue: Qantas has already added seasonal flights to Rome, and will by the end of the year serve South Korea, plus eventually some routes like New Zealand may further ramp up.

However, as of these May figures, we can call Singapore Airlines' the 'preferred national airline'.

Comparing the two experiences on board and in timekeeping is often chalk and cheese.
