Initially, QAN's Jetstar will only face direct competition from this Bonza outfit on two routes, from Queensland to Newcastle and one other that I forgot.
While I don't give this new airline much chance of financial prosperity, what it may do is encourage passengers to ditch some flying on Jetstar and Virgin Oz and instead fly to a nearby airport served by Bonza. However Bonza lacks SYD take off and arrival slots AFAIK, so it can't really crack Oz's busiest airport (although Melbourne Apt is only marginally behind SYD).
One has to question the viability of Bonza flying a c.180 seat Boeing 737-800 on routes that other airlines only have turboprops. Is the demand really there? Its claimed '$50 fares' may just be a handful of seats a flight: a gimmick to create interest.
