    CbrMaroon, interesting point, but Boeing 737-800 aircraft typically can safely operate on just one of their two engines for in excess of two hours.

    However losing one of the two (to state the obvious) isn't an ideal situation. The plane appears to have lost its reverse thrusters at some stage after it landed, if my timeline is correct.

    The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is yet to state if it will launch an investigation. Sometimes even when it does, it eventually abandons same if it believes nothing new will come out of spending 18 months cobbling together detailed analysis that becomes a report.

    Irrespective that the plane landed safely as expected, the incident isn't good for QAN's fast slipping public reputation, which some might say has been in freefall after Joyce's idiotic 'passengers not match fit' comments, refusal to make flight credits a fair deal, price gouging domestic airfares even though the weak ACCC claims it's not, and management's buyback inflating the share price to aid in the provision of even higher bonuses or other remuneration.

    Many who aren't versed in aviation will conclude that 'next time, QAN won't be so lucky'. It's probably true that over the years, QAN has been fortunate with some incidents such as the infamous Bangkok runway excursion that the consequences weren't more serious.

    Mammoth greed drives this company that's long ceased to be 'the national carrier' despite its constant false claims. Hard to know if safety is suffering as a result, but in the community, perceptions are everything. Many will believe standards were not as good as they once were, even if numerous experts come out and defend the company.
