The difference between QAN and REX is that in Oz's cities, few had heard of REX. It still has problems with brand recognition even though it has a small fleet of Boeing 737-800s.
One of my children is going on a cruise from Brisbane. I suggested he book with REX, but he'd never heard of it. His group now have, one way.
So unless passengers or crew are killed or badly injured on a REX flight, with rare exceptions, it won't make the news like QAN (or Virgin Oz) failures will.
