The issue Qantas have right now is a public relations disaster. This means less bums on seats and people moving to Virgin or Rex domestically or any number of airlines internationally. The strongest factor Qantas has had is brand loyalty and the frequent flyer program. I moved to Virgin and have found that their frequent flyer program is better. It takes less flights to get good status and reward flights. This kind of PR incentivises people to move and they will find better experiences elsewhere now they have moved past their inertia. They need to make some grand gestures to acknowledge their bad behaviour. Goyder needs to go, maybe other long standing board members, but they really need to change focus from trying to educate public to servicing the public. The unlawful sacking issue only reinforces they are a poor corporate citizen, but the flight credits is a massive issue, so they need to go on a charm offensive around this, and look at good ways to reward people who have held credits that were unable to be used.
They also need to get new planes and improve reliability.
